Great website. Terrific comments and very good info.

We have recently bought a Smart Passion (actually it's my wife's) and I must admit that it's a hoot. We plan on running the wheels off this little car while leaving a small carbon footprint...

From a purely financial point of view I don't know if it's actually the "smartest' car on the road but who cares? These things are great and long overdue to our automotive market.

Why do you think it's not smart financially? The price seems reasonable to me (but that could just be because my husband is a car freak & sometimes pays way more than I ever would!)

Have you owned it long enough to be able to see a difference in your gasoline bill?

Don't get me wrong, we love it. It just seems that from a practical point of view, the savings in gas won't be recouped for years. We have a year old Civic EX coupe and that thing easily gets in the 30s with sensible driving. If I assume a 10 MPG difference between it and the Smart for average yearly mileage of 12K miles it could take a long while to make a big difference.

Yes, it is nice to leave a smaller carbon footprint and both cars will have probably have great resale (until the smart novelty wears off), but the Smart seems overpriced. A nice base Civic (no sun roof, so what) will cost the same or less, will handle better, ride much nicer, carry more passengers and groceries and is as reliable as an axe. The Smart already has a loose roof...

We tossed logic out the window when we got this car and no one gawks at the Civic. We say we bought it for mileage, but your Prius can probably beat the smart on MPG. We really bought it because it is fun.
