I hope my attempt at levity [Smarties] is not too sick or already long overused.
Anyway, I'm from Brockville, Ontario and not a Smart owner- as yet. From all indications and help I've already received from these Forums I'm getting very close.
Early this year I purchased a motorhome and in March I set out for Florida to visit friends there and reacquaint myself with all the other East Coast states.

Following close behind, in point of fact on a Bikelug trailer attached to the RV, was my Honda Reflex scooter.

The frownie reflects the fact that I had significant problems with the brand spanking new Bikelug and spent three days sorting them out. But that is another story more appropriate for my Reflex web group.. Once I got to Florida everything was fine and I spent twice as long as planned there.
The cool fall weather has got me in the mood to head South again and my thoughts have turned to the idea of towing a small car instead of the scooter. As a solo traveller, widowed last year, my space needs are minimal and my wonderful Pontiac Aztek [the World's ugliest crossover at birth] is just too big to take along. So, as you have guessed already, I've zeroed in on a Smart.
One of my initial questions was as to whether it can be towed 4 to the ground and I've gotten a resounding YES! Thank you all!
Now I'm mulling the "buy a new gas model versus a used diesel" question. The diesel is no longer available in Canada but I have several friends here who own one and they love it. Any thoughts would be welcome but I'll probably find the answer somewhere in the forums.
Cheers...
