Hey!

Just wanted to introduce myself.
Name's Josh, and I'm from lovely sunny southern Cali.
I am currently on the waiting list for my Smart... hopefully should be receiving car around May.... but no for-sure date set yet.

If anyone can point me to their favorite places to get aftermarket parts for their smart, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks ahead of time for the help!

Thank you

Thanks for the response!

After driving/owning your smarts for awhile now... what do you guys think? What are some of the things you think should be changed/upgraded?

The car is fine as it is. However, it's just so much fun to play with that you'll never run out of mods. Enjoy it when it arrives, and enjoy customizing it to meet your needs and tastes.
PS Welcome to the forums!

rennfahr,
IMHO, there are a few things that should be changed, and many more you may want to change. Some of the "must haves" include:
1. Replace the "excuse me" (quote from the dealer) horn with something noticeable. I used the WOLO BadBoy horn as a replacement.
2. Floor mats - the "carpeting" installed does not seem to be the most robust, and you will want to preserve it. As to what type to install, that's up to you. You can go from real cheap, $5 rubber mats, up to custom mats with smart logos, etc. I went with Coco mats - not cheap, but I am happy with them.

Most everything else I have done was for my pleasure. Check out the Modifications section to get an idea of what people have done to their smarts - it is quite eye-opening (and a lot of fun, sometimes).

Good luck with your smart - you will no-doubt enjoy it!

Gbryers is right, I forgot about the horn. Mine was upgraded on day 3 of ownership. I can't say that the mats are essential. I did get the OEM rubber ones when I picked up the car and added Lloyd's later. I'd still have to say they're optional but the horn does need help. (I ended up going with the Wolo too after a stint with the Fanfare which wasn't bad, but doesn't compare to the Wolo.)

About the horn

The "Fanfare" is enough for my (and possibly most) city use. More could be perceived as agressive, a no-no in some parts of town.

You will want a good sunshade for the windshield and for the roof if you have a passion coupe. The inside of the car gets very hot in the summer. These items are available from Smartmadness.

Agreed, but much of my driving is on the NYC metro area Interstates. I can't prove it, but I think the Wolo has saved me from some dangerous situations with inattentive drivers deciding to switch lanes without warning at 70mph during rush hour traffic.
