Hi from Bandera TX

I kind of feel silly becoming a member of this site when we don't actually own a Smart car yet. The wife and I are waiting for the San Antonio dealership to call us once the "Cash for Clunkers" goes into effect which is supposed to be in late July. We have already made the test drives and researched the Smart vehicle and are pleased with what we see. Since this will be the wife's car, she wants the red and black cabriolet with the red interior. Our only add ons will be cruise control which the dealer tells us can be done at an outside source they use and power steering. This will be her commute vehicle which will get about 100 miles per day. Sure hope the mechanics of the vehicle are good since the maintenance seems very low on this vehicle. I am looking forward to adding some easy performance add ons and a tire wheel package. Thanks to all of you out there who pass on your expertise and product information. I enjoy reading all the different areas of the site.

Welcome aboard.

The Cabrio comes with power steering, so with the after-market cruise control, you wife will be cruising in style.

P.S. - My partner here just picked up an orphaned Brabus from the San Antonio dealer. If you are considering upgrading the wheels, suspension, body, exhaust, etc., you might want to look into that package. It's a good bargain compared to the price for buying all that stuff after market. The Brabus has the same performance as the standard models, so you can still get your tinkering Jones satisfied by souping up the power.

Something you'll learn here as well is that there are two cruise controls on the market: Area451 and MDC.

If you want a chance to get a little more intimate with your new purchase, both of these units are self-intall. If you prefer the confidence with a professional install or if it rolls into the financing, more power to you!

While I got my Area451 installed for me at a Smart gathering, I helped a friend install hers and I really enjoyed the experience.

Once everything comes together: welcome to Smart ownership!

Umm to my knowledge power steering is an add on option on the Cabrio, because if it comes standard then my Cabrio was passed over in the factory.

I think power steering is part of the comfort package. Do you have a hockey puck on your 2008 windshield?

Right, John - Power steering comes with the comfort package or can be added as a factory option to any smart. It is not "standard" on the cabrio.
