I don't have pics right now. Will try to scare some up.. Sadly it's in the shop right now. Oil pump failed and I get a new engine.

I hate to ask this - how many miles (or kilometers) on it when it failed? And is it the 700cc engine? Thanks.

It had 89,000km on it. It's the 799cc diesel engine?? The one that is sold in Canada. I just had an injector and intake done under warranty. I'm wondering if something didn't fall into the internals when they did the work, travelled thru system and plugged it. They didn't want to investigate further other than the usual 'no oil pressure in top end', so they ordered a new engine from somewhere in Toronto. Should be on the road by weeks end.

Hi sportsmartcar

I have visited your lovely city; I spent 6 weeks on a temporary work assignment with my company. Calgary is where I saw my first Smart. Now, I am trying to get one. I had the opportunity to visit Banff and Lake Louise during the weekends.

Best of luck with that new engine.

Thanks everyone. I was amazed when the service tech told me the warranty on the new engine was two - yes two years unlimited kms. I had him confirm that with MB and get it in writing.!

It's Back! From the shop...

Hi all. Just an update to all interested about my plight. I got my smart back April 28. It was in the shop 33 days... The new engine has about 4000km on it now. Getting about 60mpg but it is not totally broken in yet, so expecting 65mpg or better. I run a 400km highway/city loop everyday incase you are wondering...
It sounds, feels, and runs way better than the original one did. I got my old core back, so I have a friend here in the city that is going to break it down and tell me what went wrong. He thinks it was the oil pump as well.
Anyway, I will keep you posted on results.

I will take some pics as soon as I get some time to wash and polish. How or where do I post them?
Thanks for the interest..Debbie in Calgary

Great news Debbie

It is great to hear that you are back in business.

I am really hoping to get back to Calgary this year...at least that one day of summer that you have.

We have several guests in our office from Calgary. I am not sure how they are holding up to the weather; however, they are staying at the beach so I am sure they do not mind.
