Hi Everyone

my name is crysti. i don't have a smart car yet, but planning on getting one if i can find one in my area. I heard on the news that in germany they were going for $2500. why am i seeing prices comparing to bigger engine cars in the us? why would a smart car with such a small engine cost as much as or more than a toyota or hyandai, for instance?

crystimart - European smarts are not the US 451 model. They have, in some cases, been around for 10 years. In the US there is a very large demand for smart cars, even though that demand has softened recently. Potential buyers, who have reserved online; generally wait 12 - 14 months for their cars to arrive. To get one without the wait usually involves spending a little extra money. Visit a dealership and drive the smart, shop the other manufacturers (Toyota, Honda, GM) and compare price, function and economy. Good Luck in your search! Welcome to the Forum!!

The $2500 dollar car you are seeing is probably the TATA NANO, while it looks similar to the smart, it will not be available in the USA as it does not come close to meeting fmvss or epa requirements
