Hi from Florida

First time post. Just a quick note to say I'm on the orphan list at the Clearwater, Florida dealer for a new Smart Car. I've been aware of these wonderful vehicles since seeing one for the first time in Vancouver, BC in 2005. It really amazes me though how many of my aquaintances are "dis-ing" this car. Everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess.
Anyway cheers to everyone on the forum, from sunny Florida. Going to go and jump in the pool just now.

Greetings from a little north of you (OK, a few hours actually). You acquaintances will change their tune once they see it, maybe sit in it etc. Most people I've seen/talked to changed their once they discovered it actually is a safe car. Of course they'll still whine about size like they constantly go out and buy a couch everyday, then they'll whine about - "it should have better mileage for it's size" - after they see the EPA ratings. You'll equal those EPA ratings if you drive like a crazed maniac. If you drive conservative you'll better those #'s. I have yet to get under 39.8mpg and have a lifetime mileage of 43mpg over 4700+ miles.

You'll love your orphan just the same- even if someone else foolishly gave it up for adoption!!

Miguel and the other folks at Clearwater smart will take good care of you. I adopted my red/black cabrio there.

When I was picking up my fortwo, a couple told me I should add 20 minutes to my estimated travel time for any trip so I would have time to answer questions about my new car. That was good advise. Driving around with the windows and top down seems to draw a crowd. I have yet to make it through a gas station stop without someone asking me about the mileage I'm getting. (30-35 around town, as high as 55.7 on the highway).

There are now two other smarts in my neighborhood. One is a silver cabrio that was adopted in Clearwater and the other a red/black hardtop.

I know this is mean, but I get a kick out of parking next to H2's and Escalades...

WELCOME "Karinann"

like you, i'm WAITING for my smart, but i'm going the other route of actually reserving.....WAITING, configuring.....WAITING, and then finally taking delivery of the one that i ordered.

i wish you all the luck with the orphan route. you'll give some lucky smart a great home!

and like you, i too could go to the pool.......part of my back yard is a pool from all the rain we've had. don't think i want to swim in it though.....

Send some of that rain north to New Port Richey. My yard is beginning to look like a desert.

Even if you have reserved a car, keep in touch with your dealer. I had a car on order for nearly a year, stopped in to take a test drive, and drove off with an orphan that was VERY similar to the one I had on order.
