Hi, got my smartcar on sunday

Hi
New to this site. Just got my smart car (passion) on sunday. Luv it. 60 miles driven yesterday and gas gauge still reads full.

Very Cool!! Welcome and Congratulations!! Did you wait reserve and wait, or Adopt an Orphan? Color, model, pics?? Uh, you'll discover that first tick on the gas gage takes a while, not indicative of the actual fuel economy.

Those "ticks" Dunerunner is talking about are not proportional, the first one takes ±100 miles... then... they shrink faster!

The most I've ever gotten from the first bar is 52; typically I get in the low 40s and then it drops off to the low 20s for the second bar. I usually get in the 30s for the balance of the bars, but this tank my third bar was similar to the second.

What are you doing to get such great mileage?

Agree with JPaul... I'd see anywhere between 75-95 before the first tick disappears, and really, it's not an accurate mileage indicator. My son said that it's a common car 'trick' for the driver to feel that the car is doing great mileage. Dunno abt that, but I'd learnt to give about 50 miles for each tick after the first one's gone...

Just my luck, I got a liar!

My car is just like another: ±290 miles per tank before the gauge turns into its "reserve" mode, I think (I haven't been there yet).

BTW, socaltravelingguy: Welcome!

That's not too far off mine. I get somewhere between 270 and 290 or so. I've only gone over 300 twice before I filled up at about .6 left. Once I got 303 and once I got 310 or so. My overall mileage has ranged from 32 (once) to 43 (once), but usually ranges between 35 and 38. On most tanks my driving is mixed between stop and go and highway.
