Hi, SMART owner new to the forum

Hi, I have been driving my SMART Passion for two months and I am really enjoying it a lot more than I ever expected. I honestly thought of it as just a more reasonable and sensible car for commuting to the office, but now find myself preferring it over my other cars.

I am averaging just about 40 mpg on the first three tanks of gas. I drive a mix of local and highway, so I figure that this is the best that I can do. Are there specific tips for increasing gas mileage (driving standard instead of auto, coasting, slow acceleration on highways)?

Does anyone know how well the SMART will handle in the snow? I live in Buffalo, and well, you know the rest!

Anyone else from New York?

By the 2000 Census, about eight million! Welcome aboard.

EDIT: Hasty me. The state has 19 million. I'm in LA (Lower Alabama)
Excuse the dumb redneck humor.

I'm in Panama City. Lots of us refer to the Florida Panhandle as LA (Lower Alabama)

But, you're in my favorite part of the country. I've had three 'real' vacations in my whole life. Two of them were in Oregon/Washington. My avatar picture was a self portrait taken on the Historic Colombia River Highway in 2006.

With the rate that people are leaving Upstate New York, you may be more correct with the 8 million figure.

I spent some time in Yeehaw Junction, FL (central FL) and a few months in Pensacola, FL. I miss the winter weather in Florida, you can keep the heat and humidity of the summer though

Well it took you long enough to find us

Welcome. I've had my smart almost a month now and it sounds like we're driving about the same traffic and getting the same mileage. No complaints from me. I'm getting 16 more miles per gallon than my last car.

As for the snow question, I don't think anyone has had their smart long enough to know. There is a thread on here somewhere that deals with the snow question.
