Hopefully picking up my Pure this weekend! Any tips for long drive back?

If all goes well I will be picking up my Pure this weekend (Yea!) . I have followed the Smart's progress in Europe long before it came to the USA and then patiently waited for the right time for me to buy since they came to the North Am.

I decided on a Pure as I tend to like my vehicles stripped down and I then add what I want/need. Some plans are performance/mileage/efficiency oriented - cold air intake, DTH exhaust, ScanGauge, wheels and graphics. The graphics will mostly be promotional for my new business.

I will flying in to pick up the Smart and driving 1K miles back home over 2 days. I will be taking my iPod, GPS, etc. for the trip but as I have only driven one of these a few miles, Any input on what to expect on the trip would be appreciated.

I might also add I have a lot of experience traveling distances on smaller vehicles. I have ridden a motorcycle & scooter west coast to east coast and a scooter from S. Fla to Maine and back, so I am not accustomed to being surrounded by a large luxury car.

Cheers
BJ

Make sure you have a long enough cord for the I-Pod.

THe Audio input is in the glove box and the power input is under the dash. If you don't have enough cable you may not be able to use both at the same time.

Later you can adjust those things via modification on here to make them more useable

Smiles & Pointing

I might also add I am 6'3", 250lbs and with a gray beard, so having me emerge from a Smart..... just might freak some folks out!

Very good to know. So if I understand correctly, the Pure has speakers, an amp and headphone jack, is that correct?

the 2009 Operator's Manual has a break-in period procedure for the first 1000 miles. It is on page 110.

I don't know how many people followed it and what the circumstances are now and will be. Some people probably think they know more, some have family members/friends to give them advice, some choose to ignore and unfortunately some never knew about the procedures.

It's up to you but at least you know now.........

Break in period

Thanx, but it already has 6K miles, so I am trading in the break-in period for depreciation. http://smartcarofamerica.com/forums/...ilies/cool.gif

If the pure you are purchasing does not have a radio, ask the brand manager (very nicely) if he has an extra that can be installed?

All smart cars are pre-wired for an audio system (wires, speakers, antenna)
BUT there has to be a unit installed in the dash in order for your aux input to actually work?

Most dealerships have extras (removed when a customer upgraded to a non-factory system)?

Installation of a factory Radio 9 (AM/FM/single CD) takes less than 5 minutes?

Do you have any lumbar/back issues?

If so, I suggest a foam pool noodle (dollar store). One with a solid core (no hole).
Trim to fit just behind your back (18") at the belt line.

Really helps my compressed vertibre(sp), I use it everyday, no mater how long the trip.
