Hot vent air

Help. Have a Passion a few weeks old with a problem. The heater seems to be on all the time. With the A/C off and the fan on I get hot air (>90 degrees) out of the vents. I have the Temp control set as low as it will go and the outside temp is about 70.

Any ideas??

Take it back to the dealer. There's a problem.

I did. There are no error codes, so they say it's working the way it should!

if it is 70 degrees outside, the unmodified air in should be approx.70 degrees, if it is near 90 degrees it is passing thru the heater core. the diverter door (which directs airflow thru or away from the heater core) is probably not working or sealing properly.

I wonder what error code you get for a mechanical failure...

I thought it might be a leaking heater valve. I can't find out if there even is a diverter door. Maybe they always run the outside air through the heater and hope the valve keeps the hot water out...

I'm one of those geeks who has an automotive thermometer in my toolbox. You should get one and then put it in the vent to see just how hot it really is. I've noticed the same thing on how the regular vent is hotter than other cars - I didn't put the thermometer on it as I'm thinking its the nature of the beast. Mostly in my head that it's blowing hot air out of the vent though I'm quite sure I feel it. Now you've talked me into putting the thermometer in there. I need to go find it in the garage.

I did use a thermometer: 94 degrees; 72 outside
