How long can I expect to wait?

I am considering putting in a reservation here in Maryland and I was wondering if some of you would be willing to give me an idea of how long you waited from putting in your reservation to delivery of your SMART. Thanks!

I'm picking up in the next week!

I reserved in September 2007. Others have waited longer, some have picked up sooner. If you want an orphan, you can go to a smart center today and pick up one that they've configured. I saw one in "rally" trim for $27K complete with high end Nav, dual tip exhaust, body trim, and a rear camera. Base was $13,500 but you could have it today

Good things come to those who wait grasshopper,

I ordered mine in September 2007, and picked up in June 2008.

The dealership in Buffalo is quoting prospective owners a 12 - 20 month wait if they order today. Ebay is offering cars at a $2,000+ mark-up. I was offered $20,000 for my $16,000 car a few weeks ago. There is definitely an irrational market out there, be careful.

I put my reservation in on June 7th! And was told it would be anywhere from 1.5 years to 2 years!
But thats alright with me, its worth the wait!

can you say "Eternity"???

seriously, depends mostly on location. NYC....6-9 months due to the number of dealers in the area. rest of the country.......12-18 months and in some cases i've been told the current waiting period is 22 MONTHS!

so if you decide to place your order, it's best to have a lot of PATIENCE.........OR get on your smart center's 'orphan list' IMMEDIATELY!

GOOD LUCK!!

There are a slew of high mileage cars that are going to start showing up from other manufacturers soon (see threads on Toyota IQ) which might start to affect the demand. Smart I am sure is also thinking about how to ramp up the manufacturing numbers since they've got so many reservations and they know they might lose a few it they have to wait too long. Hard to predict what your actual wait time will be, but it's fun killing time on the forums. It's the most entertaining $99 you will ever spend. With Smart you're going to be part of a group of true believers!

I just took delivery on 8/12/08 and had waited 14 months. By the way, worth the wait.

Brad is Back!

Well, I just configured as a 2009! Let's see I reserved in late March. Nearly (6 months), and my DDE says Feb - Apr 2009 (another 6 months). That seems right on target!

Side note - While I am very excited to finally configure, I am disapointed in the lack of updates from the 08 to 09 model. All that was added for me was an idiot sensor to tell me I didn't tighten my gas cap... Last time I checked, I have never had a problem remembering to do that... What does that say about folks... They completly excluded the cruise control and improving the warranty. It's kinda sad, but I am still going for it. These small negatives don't out weigh the positives!

For all the nay-sayers, I made a post long ago saying the year break would be in August, and everything after that would be 09. I remember getting pounced on by a few for making that comment.
