waiting time for a Smart

Side note - While I am very excited to finally configure, I am disapointed in the lack of updates from the 08 to 09 model. All that was added for me was an idiot sensor to tell me I didn't tighten my gas cap... Last time I checked, I have never had a problem remembering to do that... What does that say about folks... They completly excluded the cruise control and improving the warranty. It's kinda sad, but I am still going for it. These small negatives don't out weigh the positives!

For all the nay-sayers, I made a post long ago saying the year break would be in August, and everything after that would be 09. I remember getting pounced on by a few for making that comment.
I configured twice in August and learned yesterday that my DDE is October 10, 2008 to January 9, 2009. How do you know that you will receive an 09 or 08, especially if the car comes in October--right around the time that 09 productions start?

Thanks for any help, toxdan

When I was configuring the new 2009 colors were listed... I will also have the door nets (2009 features)...

Why would I configure a 2008 with 2009 options?

If you configured BEFORE August 25th, you will receive an 08; after the 25th, you'll get an 09

this is actually a blessing in disguise, adding the idiot light means that, in the event you or someone else doesn't close the gas cap properly, it won't throw a much more vague CEL - which would require, for most people, a trip to the stealership only to discover the gas cap wasn't tight and then they leave the stealership with a bad attitude upset that their check engine light can be thrown by a gas cap.

i'm pretty sure that was the rationale behind adding the idiot light. saves the dealerships time and money, saves the consumer peace of mind, etc and so on. so while i generally don't care for idiot lights, i can see the economics behind this "upgrade" from a customer satisfaction and dollars and cents point of view.

Good point. My first config was an 08 and the second config was an 09. But I am puzzled that I could possibly receive an 09 on October 10 which from all accounts would be an 08--am I right or wrong?

Ditto for me on the ordering and pickup.

But nobody is paying the $2k premium anymore now that people are giving up their 08 reservations for a 2009 model. There are 2008 models just sitting on the car lots.

I just ran my car for 2 weeks on EBAY, as well as 10 other cars I was tracking and the highest bid for a low mileage (under 500) and WELL EQUIPPED Passion was low $17s.

Hello

Hi everyone, I'm a proud owner of a silver smart passion and just love it. I have a number of high end cars, but bar none my smart is my favorite. I really didn't want to post but got tired of getting the notice suggesting I go to the new member area and post. So again....hello

Strange... I would call and ask, unless you get one of the last 08 and one of the first 09... That would be really odd. If you didn't choose any of the new options (like new colors) they may bump you into a 09. If you did choose something like yellow they may keep it as an 08...

It probably comes down to the person that makes the vin plate and the date your first car is actually made. If you manage to get the vin numbers they should have that info as well. I have heard several people get the vin for tracking. I need to re-read those threds since i am getting closer too...

FYI, the 10th digit of the VIN is the year.
