We are just starting to look at the Smart. I hope to get to the local dealer in a couple of days. We have pretty much narrowed down our choice to a sliver/silver or a silver/black Passion. Our last three cars (including our current one) have been silver. If we like what we see, we will probably reserve a car. Is the delivery still 12 to 18 months? Any pros or cons about the transparent roof versus the solid one?

Welcome, I have a silver/silver and a white/silver. The silver/silver was purchased as an orphan so I had a chance to get rid of it and get my second reservation (black/black). Decided to keep the silver/silver. It just turned 16,000 miles today when I took it to the dealer for the transmission update and new battery. Put a reservation in for $99 then start hunting for an orphan. You might get lucky. You'll love it after you get it.

Welcome aboard. As for the car, there is nothing bad to say. What a lot of fun to drive. I had ordered a car and after a year got an orphan. My orphan is a cabrio and I love it. I would order the cabrio if I had to do it over again. Check the threads and I think you will find a discussion on whether to go with the hard top or soft top. Best of luck. Let the fun begin

If you like the test drive (take a long one) you'll love the car. Mine is the most fun I've had with a car since I was a teen, and that's a good long while!

Well just my .02 worth but Black is a real pain to keep clean looking. I would think Silver would be much easier. I have a Pure with AC and the solid roof. Love it. I didn't see the need for all the extra electric gadgets, I just wanted a car with AC and a radio. 14000 plus miles and no regrets.

Check your local dealer, many of them have cars sitting on the lot you can buy right away. I'm sure you can find something close to what you want. I know the dealer in Indianapolis has about 17 cars right now for sale. I'm sure yours has some to, especially in this ecomomic climate. By the way, welcome to the forum!

I'm sorry you guys have to sign up and wait for your Smarts. Up here in the "Frozen North" Canada. Here we just walk in and pick our colour make a deal, pay too much and drive home. There are lots of new 2008's still at dealers. Still a few 450 orphans. Oh, They are sold out of Mercedes dealerships up here.

Most dealers (Seattle included) have quite a few cars available right away. Go and take a look!

As for silver - it's not my favorite car color, but silver/silver is what mine was when I got it. And yes, color is the least important factor and the easiest to change (mine's been red after silver and now pink)

PS - on the transparent roof .... living in the northwest, I wouldn't have it any other way. So many gray, rainy days - I say let the sun shine in!
