If I reserved 2/4/08 res#1495

and they say everyone that holds a reservations now will configure by end of may. This would mean that I should get my car late september to mid october. I guess it will be an 08 not an 09. Oh well the 08's are cheaper than the 09's will be.

Yeah....ummmm...I dont see how it is possible for you to receive a car with an 08' reservation. They are only releasing so many the first year. You are better off on the orphan list if you want one this year. I highly doubt even people who reserved late last year will see one this year if they stick it through with their reservations.

That is a very interesting point. It is hard to tell what Smart is going to do about increasing production levels from the threads I have read so far. We seem to have some conflicting information on whether or not everyone will get to configure this year or not. Whether or not Smart can even increase production if they want to. What kind of cancellation rate is really happening out there with some of the negative economic news. It is a bit foggy right now. So the best advice is that the orphan list is like insurance if you really want a car sooner.

Not to sound rude or mean, but whats with some people who reserved VERY late thinking they are getting a car this year if the just stick with the reservation process??????? There is a looooongggg line and they are at the back of it. Even with dropouts I just don't see it, unless some news broke of Smart producing several thousands more this year. Did I miss some news, seriously?

When I reserved my conformation e-mail said that I would be configuring within a few months. So even if it goes a little longer that would put me around may. Then I guess another 4 months to build and ship the car that would make it a sept or oct delivery. I don't care when I get the car. I would rather get an 09 model. I am just going by the amount of time it takes to get the car from what other people have said once they configure. Sorry for the post!

Unless I missed something I haven't seen any new postings about many total reservations have now been made. I saw some numbers being kicked around like 45,000 back in January, but then there is the 20% or more cancellation rate happening at some dealers, but not all. Has anyone seen anything official lately from Smart about what the real world numbers really are? Someone up there in corporate headquarters must have a pretty good idea about how long a reservation today is realistically going to take to deliver. Maybe one of them could chime in?
