WOW is that $436 a month?

Yeah, Shop around I pay Under $600 for 6 months on three Vehicles for my wife an me at USAA.

I can't imagine paying more for insurance than my car payments. And I even upped my Liability to over $300,000

Hey intake, dont get down on your insurance. Forest's rate is great, but remember most people here are old enough to be our parents.

Our credit is great, we are both over 30, no accidents, no tickets (in the last 8 years anyway), and we have been with Allstate for eight years. I think we're getting ripped off! ;)

Of course for some of you it may depend on where you park at night.

I'm in the middle of nowhere.

Must be the area then. Every time I apply for ins, they ask if we rent, or own. What type of residence, and if it is in a garage.

Hello all...

The reason the insurance rate is high is because it is categorized under mercedes. So even though its a cheaper car its classified as a mercedes. Go figure!!

Tell Insurance Company to Check the ISO ratings

If you get a high rate from your insurance company and they don't seem familiar with the smart, tell them to check the insurance industry's ISO ratings for the smart car. These are the ratings that determine the high or low cost of a particular car. ISO ratings range from a low of 7 to a high of 25, I believe. A 25 would equate to the highest insurance costs for a particular car. The smart coupe is rated at an 8 (yeah, that's great!) and a cabrio is rated at a 13, still not bad. With this information, your insurance company can help their underwriting department provide you a lower rate than if they just "guess". Liberty Mutual is normally your best bet if your insurance company won't cooperate.
