Insurance Rates :(

I can't believe the prices ppl on this forum are paying for insurance. I have talked with my Insurance company, (Progressive), and mine is going to go down around $200 a year dropping my Kia and adding my smart. I am paying around 2600 for 3 cars/trucks.

Full coverage on all.

05 Jetta Diesel.
06 Kia Rio

and to beat all, I only have a $98 deductable. You can't beat that with a stick. I just don't get why ppl are paying so high. Oh, that is with my wife on board also, and she had 3 wrecks in less then 3 years, and my rates stayed exactly where they were at. They did not bump them up. Not sure why the other companies are so bad. Good luck to all of you.

A point someone made in another thread, was that there is a possibility they could be mistaking the smart 451 for the 450 version... hence the insane pricing and parts being "hard to get".

This is exactly what I found out from AIG yesterday.

First contact (when I reserved months ago): We don't underwrite Smarts.

Second contact (before I configured, months ago): We'll insure your smart for a little more than we now insure your other two vehicles.

Third contact (after I configured weeks ago): We'll insure your smart for a reasonable rate.

Yesterday (to insure my adopted passion I must add): We don't, wait, can I put you on hold? I'm thinking oh no, now I have to shop insurance companies again. Rep comes back: What year? I say 2009. Oh, OK. We cover model years 2008 on.

Makes perfect sense now. NeWave is right on: Be sure the company knows it's an '08 or '09 when shopping for rates and coverage.

I have a 2006 450 and was with Geico, they would not even cover the vehicle I checked around with a few companies and ended up going with Costco Ameriprose Auto & Home, IDS Property Insurance Company. It wasn't cheap, more than my 2001 Camry!

My insurance went down by 600.00 per 6 months with the smart when I ditched my 330i yesterday.

I'm a 24 y/o male and I pay $97.50 per month for Full coverage w/$500 deductable. I'm with Progressive. Plus between 16 and 21 I had my license suspended 3 times for to many tickets in my spoiled cars my parents bought me. Almost 4 years with no tickets now, never have had a wreck either.

Same age, spotless record. Yet Allstate wants to charge me $1900+ and Safeco $1500 for 6 months. And to update that from my earlier post, that is what allstate wanted to charge me for a confirmed 451. Suckage.
Geico, $780 for 6 months. Still high, but meh. I took it. I'll shop around more when my 6 months are almost up.
