Investigating the Smart Car

Hello from San Antonio. I have had the urge to seriously consider the Smart Car. Then... last week a video came out on the news about how unsafe they are. I don't believe everything I see or hear on the news. Wanted some opinions from those who own the Smart.

If you live in an area with extreme pot-holiness, take a test drive through the marred streets first. Until I drove through Kentucky, I never would have thought roads could get so bad in any one area.

I am a retired police officer and worked many wrecks. Look at smartcar crash on you tube. You will see one run into a cement barrcade at 70 MPH. Then they open the doors and the inside is intact. I'v had to use jawes of life to cut folks out of LTD's and other full size vehicles. That made me want one. I have one, I drive in the Austin area all the time and love it. No issues of safty...

Remember the smart also has thing to help keep you from being in a wreck. Its small size allows it to stop quicker, it is nimble and can corner fairly well. Also ABS, Traction control are standard. The safest car is the one that does not wreck.

The first question you need to ask yourself regarding safety is "Do I ride a motorcycle or ATV"? If yes its safe

I have never felt unsafe in my car. I drive a mixture of interstate and city (chicago) driving with irritated commuters and semi-trucks everyday. The car's tiny size makes me feel much safer navigating crowded and narrow roads. If you're a safe driver you'll be fine.

I'm sick of the anti smart propiganda. This new posters post is exactly what the a@@holes want to happen. I don't know why people want smart to fail. The car is safe as any other car on the road.

..high side...on the video all of America saw with the statistics of people killed per so many accidents was funny as hell...they were 2007 stats...the smart car did not make it to NA 'till 08....is it safe?...like with anything else, only as safe as you make it and then some...as always, you need to drive like if your head is on a swivel and on fire......just me..
