Picked it up today, smart passion coupe, White with Black Tridion Cell, Tan interior, power steering and clock/tach pods. I drove it 67 miles home and love it. Still getting used to the transmission, but if I just sit back, press the go pedal, and let it do it's job, it's great!

My experience at smartsj (San Jose, California) was excellent. Anne, the Sales Manager was great, Eric, the Finance guy was quick and helpful. No hard nosed upgrade or warranty push, just some logical suggestions and thoughtful advice. The floor gal (I forgot her name) was great, she took me through the features while they created the documentation.

100% financing at 5.24 percent (my FICO is excellent). All-in-all I was there for an hour, the car was freshly washed and prepped with a full tank of gas (92 miles on it tonight and I just lost one bar on the fuel guage).

By driving this car to and from my work (instead of my Ford F350) I am saving $270 a month in fuel. Almost enough to make the payment. It's like I got the car for free.

I hope to take it out for some photos tomorrow, I'll keep you posted.

Thanx for all the support and I look forward to actively participating on the forum in the future.

Jim "waited patiently for almost a year" Martin

P.S. Had I known last year when I put my $99 down, that fuel was going to be almost $5.00 per gallon, I would have reserved two or three of them.

That's great, jmartinsmart...Congratulations!! I got the email the same day, which means our cars must have been on the truck together Made an appointment to pick up the car on Tuesday, though I'm hoping to change it to Monday. We'll see.

This is a really helpful post for me, too, as I've never had to deal with car places. Now I know what to expect.

Happy motoring!

OK, trouble!

I picked up my smart last Friday 7/11, as of today I have 200 miles on it. at 140 miles the Engine Malfunction Light came on and I lost power. At first it felt like I had a flat tire or something. But then I noticed the lignt. It would barely move forward and was missing horribly. I pulled into a parking lot and positioned the car so it could be loaded and towed by a flatbed (I manage a tow company) and I shut the car off. I waited a minute or so and started it back up.

It ran fine for the rest of the day and is now safe at home. Does anyone know, if I take it in to the dealer (Smart San jose CA) will they be able to retrieve any code history? Now that it is running fine, I am tempted to wait and see if the problem was a fluke.

Jim

P.S. I also posted this in the "Engine Malfunction Light" thread.

Is the engine malfunction light still on? If it is.. it's a fault code and it can be pulled. If it isn't.. it's a pending code.. which can or cannot (depends on your luck) be pulled.

We picked ours up yesterday. Put the top down last night and went to Dairy Queen, got some ice cream and parked on the town square to eat it. Met lots of people and answered lots of questions. I LOVE MY SMART.

Got my email follow-up from smart (questionairre). I gave the dealership experience top marks, but made note of the Engine Malfunction issue with them so it is documented.

I drove the car to work this morning for the first time (which is the main reason I bought it) and it felt great. The only problem I seem to have is keeping the speed down. For some reason, it settles in about 60-65 mph. Maybe I wore my heavy shoes today.

What was the normal wait time for most of you?

yikes, sorry to hear about the engine malfunction issue, Jim! hopefully it's one of the known issues and is easily fixed. this worries me a little since we live over a hundred miles away and i'd hate to have to drive all the way back so soon to get it fixed. i wonder if there's any way they can check for or remedy this before taking ownership? (tomorrow's our big day!)

You got 92 miles on your first bar on your first tank? I've never gotten anything close to that. What kind of driving were you doing?
