I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner... for some reason I'm not getting my emails even to subscribed threads.

Yeah I got 92 miles on the odometer before it lost the first bar. I ended up getting 285 miles on my first tank (or at least when I decided to refuel). I used 7.88 gallons and that means 36.1 MPG. I understand it should improve over time, and I expect with my heavy foot (normally I drive a Corvette) it may not go above 40-45 very often.

Re; the "Engine Malfunction" issue, I have not had any problems since. I got a call from Derek at smartsj and he said they had several vehicles report this. He/they are investigating the fuel station that they fill the cars up at the time of delivery. He said they have an octane problem in that their premium may not be up to 91-92 octane where it should be. They have apparently added an octane booster to some of the cars which are still on that first tank and the problem has gone away. I told him I would just keep an eye on it and that I would appreciate it if they would simply document this with my records in case it comes back up.

Only other problem is my roof shade. On the passenger side, it has come out of the track and sags down. I have read here on other posts that this too is common as the shade material tends to shrink and pull itself out on one side or the other. Once again, this is not something that I want to deal with since my dealer is about 70 miles North of me, so I'll just "keep and eye on it".

Eventually, when I have no more eyes available to pay attention to the road, I'll have to take my car in for some service work. So far though, I still love the car and the attention it gets.

Jim

It Has Arrived!!!

Got an e-mail from Joe Lynch at Cary Smart Dealer. Said my car is in Jacksonville after a tremendous encounter with Bertha. Now going through customs and he hopes it will be in Cary the end of next week. I know you guys are wondering---Ordered Sept 1,2007--confirmed March 2008. My reservation number is 1339. Blue/silver Cabriolet. Looks like I will be thrid to have a Smart in Alamance County. Good luck to all those that are waiting.

OK, not real thrilled, only got 34 MPG on my second tank.

I drive very conservative, seldom exceed 4500 RPM, I'm letting the transmission do most of the shifting automatically (staying out of the paddles and higher RPM's), mostly flat commuting, 60-65 MPH, no stop-and-go, no winds in the morning (22 miles) and moderate to strong tail/cross winds in the afternoon (22 miles home).

Still, I'm getting only mid 30's on my MPG's? Where is the 40+ and occasional 50's that I'm hearing from others?

I admit, I've been using A/C in the afternoons, but not in the morning drive.

Thoughts?

Jim

I picked up my smart last Friday 7/11, as of today I have 200 miles on it. at 140 miles the Engine Malfunction Light came on and I lost power. At first it felt like I had a flat tire or something. But then I noticed the lignt. It would barely move forward and was missing horribly. I pulled into a parking lot and positioned the car so it could be loaded and towed by a flatbed (I manage a tow company) and I shut the car off. I waited a minute or so and started it back up.

It ran fine for the rest of the day and is now safe at home. Does anyone know, if I take it in to the dealer (Smart San jose CA) will they be able to retrieve any code history? Now that it is running fine, I am tempted to wait and see if the problem was a fluke.

Jim

P.S. I also posted this in the "Engine Malfunction Light" thread.
