Just Bought a Smart Passion and It's in for Repairs!

I just purchased a Smart Passion from Smart Center Manhattan and after owning it for a week it is in for repairs. The lack of customer service is unbelievable to me.

Mine has been at smart center Dallas for a week now. It's the 3rd trip. I'm optimistic that it'll be better than new soon. Welcome to the forums!

For all those smart owners who have had to bring their smart fortwos back for service, I'd just suggest that you keep track of all repairs, phone calls, emails, other correspondence, etc. Hopefully, the "bugs" will be corrected and we'll all be happy campers, but if you do have a "lemon", it's better to be fully prepared to fight for a replacement than not to have any ammunition. May you all get your smarts back home fixed and running like a top! PS. Good luck Angel!

She misses me at night and sounds the alarm. ;)

Thanks Factor9. I'm trying not to think in terms of "lemon" at this point. Worse comes to worse I'll just have them remove the alarm.

It is very frustrating that so many of our brand new cars are back in the shop so fast. It makes it challenging to find confidence. I know from my own experience- I've owned the car about 45 days and it's been out of my hands, in repairs for about 20 days total. It's not cool.

That said, the cars are new to us.. just as they are to the techs that fix and attempt to fix them. Since every problem is a NEW problem to someone just learning their way around the car, a little understanding on our part will help move things on.

Nonetheless, even as early adopters, we should NOT be Daimler's guinea pigs.. as they sort research and development out on our/your time and car payment. I didn't realize I'd still be relying on my other cars as much.. but boy am I glad I didn't sell right away. If this was my only car, being without for this amount of time would be a big issue.

I hope for all, the problems find easy or satisfactory resolutions quickly. Best of luck.

angel, I'm sorry you're even thinking about such a drastic option. NO, NO! It WILL be fixed, somehow!
Now, 'when' is another issue...
Judging from your extremely late DDE, and now your third trip to the shop, your patience is really tested to the max, and I wish to know the magic spell to end your ordeal sooner and with success. Really!

Angel,

Sorry to hear about your problem, but wanted to know if this is a Dealer add-on or OEM. Lemon makes me think you have more than just a alarming situation. Will you still wait for your reservation to come in?

Dave

right now Iam afraid if i receive notice my smart was ready, i would cancel the order

from packaging silly options,(rain sensor, butt warmer) with wanted accessories, to omitting options we all come to expect, (cruise control)
to less than EXPECTED mpg wrapped in unreliable mechanical engineering

after all its a car, a small car but still a car and the mechanics of getting a car right is not a theory even for a micro car

new and potential enthusiastic owners are eager to rip out what Daimler offers to upgrade stereos, speakers, add cruise and car guages

i can't remember buying a new car where upgrading to aftermarket products and services was closer to a necessity than to frivolously spending on the new "baby"

to underscore the expected MPG thingy i embarrased my self telling a friend i ordered a smart, he says "i bet it gets 50 mpg" after telling him the blogs are reporting the best avg of 35-40, seeing him shake his head, the next time i was asked i actually lied and said the car will get 50, thats what people that dont know expect to hear
