Just got my Passion after a 1-week wait (NYC)

Yes, I got lucky. I called about 10 days ago to initiate the process and was told that I should expect to get my car in January 09. Then I said the magic words: "I have no preferences for colors." I picked up the car yesterday. And it's cute: Black on black with red seats.

Driving it out of the dealership was a bit tricky: It was pouring rain, and due to my confusion about where exactly I was (despite the fact that I grew up in NYC), I ended up spending the next 10 minutes basically driving in a big circle in order to get out of Lincoln Tunnel traffic. That would be scary enough under normal conditions, but when driving a new car, it's even more of a challenge, and when that car is itsy-bitsy and has a somewhat peculiar way of revving up, you can imagine that I was a bit nervous (especially with my 4-year-old in the passenger seat). Happily, it ended well, with me parking in a huge spot across from my office.

Thanks. And I forgot to mention that as soon as I got back home, I took my other kids for brief rides (one at a time, of course!) and let my wife drive it to her heart's content. Her first words after her ride: "I want one!"

She's putting her order in tomorrow!

Ouch. What model did you reserve? I was told that the Passions are the most plentiful, at least in my area. Luckily that was the model I wanted, tho I would have taken pretty much anything. I didn't want power steering, but it came with my car (an extra $450).

I do understand your frustration!!! I hated paying for the pinstriping on the orphan. I really didn't want pinstriping. Tint I would have got and LoJack I thought about. And my orphan doesn't have the leather interior. I got an orphan because I didn't want to wait almost 2 years by the time the DDE had mine estimated to be delivered.

This is exactly why smart should required a non refundable deposit at the time of configuration. Then there would not be so many orphans in the system and cars that reservation holders actually will take delivery of would be delivered in a more timely fashion. Hope yours comes in real soon!!

One word - Ritalin (or don't drink and hop on the internet)

Congrats
Unicycle - if only some of us were as lucky as you. Getting an orphan configured the way I configured mine will be next to impossible - so I'll wait patiently and save up more money.

Congrats on your new adoption. I find driving around in NYC to be a breeze as long as I avoid the craters (potholes), bad drivers and car-da-files (those are the drivers who push off on your bumper causing damage when they try to park or squeeze by). Glad you made it out safe. Kind of like "Escape from NY". Enjoy the ride, Regina

Congratulations!

Hey Unicycle! Good to see another lucky owner on the Forum. I notice your other vehicle was a Pontiac Aztek. Do you have a love for "quirky" cars? What was your experience with the Aztek? Tom
