Just reserved one in NJ - how long???

I'm brand new here - please tell me if the info I'm requesting is avail on this site - because I did a quick search and didn't find it...

I just reserved a Cabrio today - and I'm so excited... I can't wait - but, alas, I know I have to... how long are leads times now? Am I looking at months or more???

Good Luck, Doogster!

The crystal ball says, "the wait may be verrrry loooong (but worth it)".
My advice check regularly with dealerships for "orphans" - cars released by reservation holders. Some folks have had surprisingly good luck this way.

Well, I sent an email to my local dealership just now - hopefully if they have any orphans they will let me know... I'm really disappointed in reading some of the remarks here on the forum... I could be looking at 18 months??? That is just CRAZY!

Following Up

Doogster,
Visit the dealership. Take a test drive. Make nice with a salesman.
I think, face to face contact helps in finding an orphan.
Look at some of the other threads here for peoples' stories of acquiring orphans. T

well......it's like this.

first, if you believe the info posted on this site, it could range from 6 months to a year and a half.

many factors are considered, such as your zip code, reservation number, density of population, city, state, number of prevous reservations, number of current owners, model of smart, color, color combinations, options, combination of options, day of the week of your reservation, time it was placed, your sex, height, weight, color of hair, length of hair, maritial status, if you have children, if you prefer cats or dogs, how many cars you currently own, how far you drive to work, if you like puppies, what you had for breakfast on the day your last born child was concieved and last but not least..........if you are considered a 'patient person'.;)

only THEN will you be put into a LOTTERY to be CONSIDERED in the future for 'confirming and configuring' your order, which will then be delivered on the basis of an entirely DIFFERENT set of criteria....

or, i could have said...HELL, who knows for sure how it's done and when you'll get it!

The best model to order is neither pure nor passion, it's... patience!

Unless you fullfil ALL the criteria listed in Jeepster55! And some...

this is disappointing... but I guess this is what I'm up against.... thanx for all the input and advice... I'll just sit tight. By the way, I'm in NJ and ordered a Cabrio in red... don't know if that model is harder to get or not... but its not written in stone... if a Passion comes in, that would be ok too.

Also, as far as face time with the dealership - its over an hour away - so I don't think I'll be stopping by too ofen.

Doogster the wait may be long and full of Angst but there is much in the way of emotional support in this forum. And if you do trip over an Orphan there will be many congrats as well.

Now I'm REALLY upset!!! I just called my local SMART dealer to introduce myself and tell him that I ordred a Cabrio this morning... he said "Oh, that's too bad... I had one sitting here for DAYS last week. The original person couldn't get a loan and so I started calling people on my list - but no one wanted the convertible. I finally found someone who wanted it and they are coming for it today"..... STORY OF MY LIFE... if I had called him yesterday I could have had it!
