I liked that.
Hey JP,
Any updates for us? Has your ship come in?
Ship «Courage» (the one that ran aground last February, an incident that resulted in many BMWs being damaged) is due to dock in Baltimore tomorrow!
Keep changing your avatar, Tom? Good. Jane's licensed yet?
Now I'm REALLY upset!!! I just called my local SMART dealer to introduce myself and tell him that I ordred a Cabrio this morning... he said "Oh, that's too bad... I had one sitting here for DAYS last week. The original person couldn't get a loan and so I started calling people on my list - but no one wanted the convertible. I finally found someone who wanted it and they are coming for it today"..... STORY OF MY LIFE... if I had called him yesterday I could have had it!
Not sure which dealer you are going through (Cherry Hill or Edison) Make nice with Danny up at Edison too. Its worth the drive.
Actually that story may bode very well for you. If he couldnt find anyone on his list to take an orphan cabrio make sure he knows to call you next time. There will be another orphan cabrio at the dealership long before the car you ordered comes in.
Oh, and when I got my orphan from Edison they had an orpahned red cabrio too, it was a hard decision between the coupe or cabrio but in the end I like my little coupe alot.
I guess things might not be as bad as it 1st seemed:
I just got a call from one of my local SMART dealers (now, I just placed my order for a Cabrio YESTERDAY) who told me my exact car is avail on their lot RIGHT NOW as an orphan... same color, same options.... only one draw back - its a PASSION, not the CABRIO... which is ok with me! I quickly called my wife to tell her the "great news"... and she had some news of her own for me... "IT'S TOTALLY OUT OF THE QUESTION!" - was her news... she is not willing to budge on the convertible... even though this car was the exact color we wanted, options and everything... she didn't want it unless it was the convertible... but the sales person told me they get them in from time to time and they have orphans and said she would probably be calling me "soon" when one showed up! This might not be as bad as I thought.

Yes, I keep changing my avatar...because I know how.
When I learn a new trick I beat it to death!
No, Jane doesn't have her license yet, because she is "a skier".
If you don't remember that old comedy bit from Bill Dana. "A skier= scared".
Send her a PM to motivate her...PLEASE!
Hey Doogster,
You are one lucky guy. Hold out for a cabrio orphan! What the heck!
And, yes please identify which showroom. There are plenty of others on this forum that want a smart, NOW!
BTW - sales lady told me on the phone the SMART does NOT come with a spare, nor is it an option... man, I didn't like to hear that - especially since I got a flat on the NJ Turnpike just a month ago... I would have been sunk without a spare! She also told me it comes with a 24 month warranty... WOW - I was shocked! Every the worst USA car comes with 3 years... she said something like $350 for the 3rd year of coverage and $650 for 5 years, I think... something like that.

No, spare, car is too small to hold one without driving with your knees in your face. You do get a can of goo and an electric pump to take care of most flats.
Its $395 for the third year with the smart USA extended warranty. The best small car in the USA allows you to customize the warranty you want, you only pay for what you want. In Canada they make you buy a much longer warranty and the cars there are much more expensive than here.
Not having a spare for me is not that big a deal... in 18 years of driving I've had one flat tire. And with no experience changing one, I'd probably be lazy enough to call AAA or other roadside assistance. 95% of the time they can patch it onsite or take the wheel back to a shop and replace the tire if it's serious.
For me, I'm maxing out the warranty to 5 years (for about $30/mo) so that if I ever sell the lil buggy I'll give the next owner peace of mind. Even with all the extra warranty, the Smart is cheaper than most other cars with its feature set. I think the 2 year warranty is to let owners customize with their own warranty preferences... there are third party warranties, and a lot of Smart owners are experienced mechanics who wouldn't spend another grand on the 5 year warranty because they may know how to fix it cheaper.
