Just reserved, waiting (im)patiently

We recently reserved a cabrio (blue/silver). We were told 7 months wait time. That's a lot shorter than I expected. Hopefully the dealer wasn't blowing smoke. We want it fully loaded, so I don't have much optimism for the orphan market. Now we just wait . . . and wait . . . and wait (tribute to Casablanca).

smoke

Hi newbi
I hate to tell you this, but he's blowing smoke I reserved 4/19/08 my dealer told me 6-8 mths I got my dde from smartusa 4/09-6/09.There's also a lot of folks on this forum that are lookink at 2yrs +.Oh they might offer you a orphan priced at 2-5 thousand over mrsp with a lot of crap that you don,t want.I'm also getting tired of my dealer smart center edison not answering calls or e-mails.For the first time I started looking at honda fits and toyota yaris. This is starting to be a big letdown.

Welcome rgreeney - You would be suprised how many smart Orphans are very well appointed with options. Hang in there and 7 months does seem a little optimistic!

When did you reserve? What is your res#?

Yeah, I think it is going to be a little longer than that. I reserved last September (2007), and my DDE says I won't get my car till 2009.
The way that people seem to be making a rush on the car right now I would expect that the time to wait will increase.

I reserved the same day as the person above at Edisionsmart, about two weeks later get a phone call stating your reservation is being cancelled due to not providing an email address.I know I gave the salesman my email address so don't know what happened. I called smartusa and provided one.My dde is two months later than the person above who reserved same day same place due to the salesman's mistake.

smartiePrincess,

I reserved on May 30 in Devon, PA and my res no is 4371011611.

**************************-

Frankly, we're willing to wait as long as it takes, with fingers crossed for an orphan. We've looked at the Aveo, Fit and Yaris and none of these have the appeal of the fortwo. We're looking for a 40mpg car that will allow us to run errands and get around efficiently. The fact that none of the others are soft tops makes a difference as well.

I've been checking the DDE and the response I get is:
Estimated ETA Date:

Your vehicle delivery date cannot be estimated at this time.

This sounds like they can't give me a date for when they can give me a date. Not very encouraging.

My DDE said the same thing for about 2 months, then I finally got a date. It is October 2009 - December 2009. I might get on the orphans list at my dealer, but they are doing expensive add ons that I don't need. I wouldn't mind the black powder coat wheels, but they are charging $1495.00 for it. I guess I will just wait.
