Just Signed Up Today on the Waiting List

Hello Smart People of the World,

Questions

So if someone signed up on 20 Sept 08 in San Antonio Texas, how long until its in my garage?

Why don't they put the Mercedes emblem on the front of the cars in the States like they do in Europe?

Are the cars also being sold through the Mercedes dealers in the States?

mea

I believe the wait is 18+ months now. So, unfortunately, it will be awhile. Unless you find yourself an orphan or buy one off of eBay.

I know that there are people that reserved before I did (like 3 months before I did), who haven't even received their configuration email yet - while I already have. One of these people lives in Texas. She was told that because she was in a larger state her delivery time would be longer. So, unfortunately again, that's something else you'll have to deal with

Don't give up though!

Thanks, I guess I can realistically figure about 20 to 24 months. That will be about the time I'll be ready to trade in my big truck. I've never seen a Smart vehicle on the road in Texas. When I travel to Germany, they're all over the place.

I've posted some other questions in the forum "$2000.00 waiting list", if anyone might know the answers. I'm wondering if the dealers are installing and trying to charge for add-ons when cars are ready to be picked up. If so, this would boost their profits, unethically, and tend to spawn orphan vehicles after the people who ordered the cars refuse to be ripped off. I'm referring to the usually over-priced rip-offs like fabric protection, underbody spray, acrylic paint coating, chrome treatment, racing pinstripes, window tinting, etc.

First reservation - 15 months, 2nd reservation approx 12 months. If you put your reservation down and wait, you will pay the price as you configured. Dealer is not allowed to mark up or add accessories without your approval.

Mercedes emblems are put on by the owners not the manufacturer. It would have been like Mercedes putting their emblem on a Chrysler when they had as a subsidiary. smart is a subsidiary of Daimler.

In Europe, I think they sell the vehicles with the Mercedes emblem on them.

I believe Mercedes didn't want to put the star emblem on the smart because if the smart flopped in America, they didn't want to hurt the Mercedes name. This could be completely wrong though...

Hi, Mercedes has never put their emblems in Smart vehicles in Europe because they want to offer a different label with a different and unique life style. Smart is Smart and although we know it is owned by Mercedes and Daymler Chrisler ,the philosophy of the enterprise is to create a unique atmosphere and a solid car without competence in the market.
