Just started looking at Smarts

Hello. I'm in the KC area and doing a little looking at Smarts. Haven't narrowed down the model or much else. Can someone point me a link or tell me a good place to find good information on these little buggers. What are they like to drive? What are their quirks? What do they do well? Poorly?

Thanks in advance,
Tony

Get the basics on SmartUSA.com and then find out what they mean in the real world. I love my Passion coupe. I've had more fun with it than with any other car I've had since I was a teenager and that was many cars ago.
I think you'll find that most of the members here love their cars , warts and all. If you look around, you can learn a lot. But, keep in mind that many threads are started to get the answer to a problem, so, at first glance, it may look like there are a lot of problems. I've had mine for over a year now. I did have to get the alarm motion sensor replaced when it was a few days old, but no problems since then.
Welcome and enjoy the forums. And, don't forget to take a long test drive to see if you really do like the car, it definitely has "character."

They are an absolute blast to drive. Not a day goes by where I do not make someone smile while driving my smart.

As for the quirks pretty much all of the quirks have been worked out of the 08's thats why the 09's have the upgrades as far as tranny shifting etc.... smart is a new car there will always be quirks with new cars but, like I said the 09's have been really good with not having any problems. The first batch of smarts which mine was one of we had our fair amount of problems but they have all been resolved in a fast and timely manner.

As far as what they do good, gas mileage is excellent if you are not have a lead foot. Also the crash rating is very good I know 7 people who have personally been in wrecks where 2 of them have been pretty bad and have all been here to tell the stories. Next There is a great amount of room for 300 dollars worth of shopping and plenty of leg and head room. Also parking is great you can talk most places into leting you park for half price.

In all honesty the only thing I can say that is poor is the way the car tracks in the wind but it only weights 1808 so that is expected

Other than this let us know if you have any other questions we would all like to be of assistance to you this is a great forum with excellent people they pretty much become family.

P.S. All of you are the Best!!!!!

A constant feeling of "getting away with something."

Hesitation between gears when shifting. Either it learns how to shift better as it goes along, or you get used to it (perhaps both).

Park in spaces that aren't really parking spaces.
Turn on a dime and give you 9 cents change.
Mess with your perceptions -- it really is larger inside than it looks from the outside.

Poorly?
Drag racing.
Vanpooling.

This is the greatest car to drive. I would recommend the cabrio. I love the cabrio and the ability to open or close at hwy speeds. The car has been problem free so far, 5k miles. Just a lot of fun and not a single regret for getting the Smart. Let the fun begin
