Kayaking

I have seen someone put a surfing board sticking out the back of his smart car and I am wondering if any of you have put something on the roof of your car. I am short and am looking for a car that I can lift my 32 lb 15 ft kayak on the roof. I have a honda civic hatch back and it is just me and the dog. does anyone have any opinions. thanks for listening .

Kayak girl.

I would be interested in knowing this as well. I will be selling my Ford truck and it was easy to load them in. Looking for options.

I can use just the foam supports and straps on my honda hatchback or I have a yakima rack and j-brackets for the top if I am going a distance. I have also managed to cram the kayak in the back of the hatch and rope it in for really short distances like in a camp ground. I just do not know if the roof would take the weight and if the car would look just to unstable and dumb with a 15 ft boat on the roof. the Honda looks crazy enough. I was thinking of hully rollers for the back of a taller car and just shove and carry a stool to tie on with. being short is so frusterating. If I get any feed back we will both know. Kayak girl.

The largest issue here in my mind is not the weight, for it would be distributed, but the damage to the polycarbonate roof due to friction scratches of a temporary rack system/ soft racks. Elevating the racks requires securing hardware, we have yet to see a good solution.

An alternative is a small trailer (motor cycle size: look for several threads here with URLs), not only for your kayak, but everything you need for the day out.

No load roof.

Smart says, No way, No how, for any roof load.

We are kayak folks too, and it looks like we will continue to use the Subi.
