Hi my name is Pierre and I have had my smart car for three and half years (Canada). It is a Black cabrio passion with a silver frame. The car is great on gas but hard on light bulbs. I have replaced 3 complete set of headlights, five tail/brake/signal in the back. Has anyone else experienced so many burnt out bulbs.
Hello and welcome Pierre. I have had my smart for 3-1/2 days, so it is a little difficult for me to comment on the bulb issue. Hopefully, someone with a little more history will be along shortly and help you out.
Pierre - Start your smart and drive until the engine is warmed up to operating temperature. With you car in PARK and running above idle, ~2000rpm, measure the voltage at the 12V recepticle in your car with an analog meter. It should be below 14.5 VDC and be steady. Switch the meter to the A/C scale and check for ripple. If AC is present there could be a problem with the alternators voltage regulation or unrectified AC causing the lamp failure. Just a guess!!!
