As per my orphan thread they asked if I want Lojack. The police in my area don't really use it. Pros? cons? thanks
It depends on whether it's used by the police, and whether coverage is available in your area.
I had LoJack on a vehicle I owned. It was stolen. LoJack, at the time, didn't work in Mexico or inland of where I lived - both areas are only two hours from my house.
But it doesn't work in Calaveras, Amador, El Dorado, Yuba, Nevada, Stansilas, Alpine, Colusa, Butte, or other counties near you.
I'm not saying that LoJack isn't a good idea ... but don't get too complacent if those counties are within driving distance of where you live.
Your Smart isn't a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry, so it's not that high on the stolen car hit parade ... but if it IS stolen, it's going to be because someone wanted it specifically. And that means they planned on how to get it and what to do with it after they got it. You'll probably only recover a Tridion cell, if anything at all. And after 30 days being gone in California, if you do get it's carcass back (or even the whole unblemished car), you'll get a new word attached to the title: SALVAGE.
LoJack is good, but the best theft deterrent is a locked garage and vigilance.
The best aftermarket alarm system? A $5.00 red flashing LED mounted where people outside the car can see it.

Your pal,
Meat.
Oh trust me, Lojack is only one of several measures I take, including all of the ones you listed. And if someone is determined enough to take it and has planned thoroughly, there isn't much I can do about it. That's what my insurance is for. But if the thief or the car can be caught within Sacto, then the lojack would have paid for itself.

LoJack is a good system. In California, it works in about half the counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Imperial, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, Madera, Marin, Merced, Napa, Orange, Placer, Riverside, Sacramento, San Bernadino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Solano, Sonoma, Sutter, Stanislaus, Tulare, Ventura and Yolo.
It doesn't work in these counties: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Del Norte, El Dorado, Glenn, Humboldt, Inyo, Lake, Lassen, Mariposa, Mendocino, Modoc, Mono, Monterey, Nevada, Plumas, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne and Yuba.
