Insurance Discount

When I had my theft tracking system coverage removed from the Outback (when analog OnStar was terminated) my USAA premium went up by two bucks every six months (33¢/mo!). Not a particularly big savings for a system that has an unlimited GPS satellite tracking area.

When you drive a car that can be lifted by 4 relativly strong people and loaded into the back of a pick-up truck, I consider lo-jack an easy decision. What I couldn't justify was the lo-jack insurence. My dealer tried to convince me that it could be a good deal. I beg to differ.

Stolen smart returned in 96min?

Howdy all.
A customer's smart was stolen from their driveway
(They left it unlocked with the keys on the console)?

The police had it back in 92 min from first report.
Yes, it had lojack.

I'm more of a "Virtus Junxit Mors Non Separabit" and "In Hoc Signo Vinces" fella myself.

If you're parking in a neighborhood where such a feat can be accomplished without drawing attention, I'd recommend not parking in that neighborhood.

Your pal,
Meat.

I'd pay to see four people lift and load a smart into a pickup truck.

what is lo-jack insurance? never heard of it.

lo-jack can typically be a pretty good deal insurance-wise regardless of whether or not the local PD is completely equipped to track the vehicle if stolen. in MA, the highest possible insurance discount on theft coverage, 35% off, is achieved only with lo-jack installed.

success with lo-jack in vehicle recovery usually relies upon a few critical elements. that the area where the vehicle was stolen from is populated with police cruisers that are equipped with lo-jack's tracking hardware.
and that you are able to report the theft very quickly after it has occurred. there are not very many places to hide the lojack device in a smart and as such, they are easily found once the criminals have the vehicle in a spot where they can take a few moments to go through it and rip that sucker out - so time is of the essence.
