Your pal,
Meat.

I live on South Street in Philadelphia. It's a very artistic area of the city, along wtih a tourist destination, home of Jim's cheese steak, Johnny Rockets, and about 20 bars in about 5 blocks. Here's my little area.

So people loading a car into another car wouldn't exactly be a specticle. It's not a dangerous area really... the street has its own police precinct... but if gay porn stars can saw holes in roofs at night, I gotta make sure Ruby stays protected.

You pay about $750 for LoJack and the installation process. Along with that initial investment comes a 2 year "warranty" of sorts. Basically, if your car is stolen, and not returned in a pre-determined window (I forget what it is offhand) they reimburse you the $750 for the LoJack. Woo hoo! You have no car... but you have the $750 you spent on lojack.

Then you have the option of paying an additional $99 within the first month to extend the warrenty for the life of the car. So now you've paid roughly $850... and if your car disappears and LoJack can't return it in a given amount of time 4 years down the line, they'll give you your $750 back. It also covers any repairs they'd made to LoJack within the life of the car.

I don't know about you... but I sure can't drive a LoJack around. I hear it's about the size of a deck of cards. If my car is stolen... I want it back. If it doesn't come back... $750 isn't going to make me feel much better. And if LoJack can't return my car... they better not think that the $750 is going towards a LoJack in my new car. Personally... this is what I have car insurence for.

okay. that lojack warranty is not something i'd pay extra for. they should offer that guarantee as part of the deal. i'm not going to give them more money just for the possibility that i'll get my investment back. i'd rather sue them if i don't get my car back as advertised.

From time to time. I have a few little alleys that I check first.

Come On people! Don't go all Suburban-American on me! This car was made for the city. City parking to be specific. It's the Smart Car's greatest stregnth! If you want the best gas mileage, get a Prius! If you want superior gas mileage and the ability to park in confined spaces, it's the Smart Car's time to shine! I'm using this car for exactly what it was made for!

no, no, It's not that. I understand the urban aspect of the Smartie. I would just lose sleep over the dents/dings/scratches etc that I would imagine happening to it.

I like crickets.

once you get the first dent/ding you don't lose sleep over the rest of them. its' not like it's a classic car. it's plastic and utilitarian. it would be like not putting the tupperware in the dishwasher because you're afraid of water spots. lol.

yeah, um, no.

sorry, analogy no workie. I think most folks with a new car like to keep them pristine as long as possible. this ain't no F150 out at the cattle ranch boy!

That's another beauty of the smart car. My pannel gets dinged? I'll get a new pannel. They're cheap and easy to change. If the tridon gets a little ding, I know how to bide time. I drove a yellow VW beetle in the area for 5 years, and she got minimal dings really. She had 1 mirror decapitation, but the dealership was able to reattach the limb. It's not so bad. Really.

Plus if we're all so worried about Gas... you know what's even better than good fuel econamy?!?! The ability to walk to your target destination. 1 sandwich $ = $ of 1 gallon of gas. I'd rather fuel myself personally.

liking to keep them new-ish and losing sleep over a possible future ding are two different things. one is practical, the other a bit, um, obsessive? lol.

i would tend to agree with ruby - while it is novel to fill half-a-parking spot in a huge big-box parking lot that's half-empty - it's not really any more clever than pulling a regular car into an empty spot once the visual joke wears off. the car is in it's element when it is squeezing into spots that can be used by no other vehicle, and even if that incurs the possible ding or scratch, no worries because that's the reason the panels are plastic, inexpensive and interchangeable to begin with.
