Loss of acceleration transmission won't shift

Howdy
I have experienced this problem intermittently. It is like a governor is kicking in and the R.P.M's don't get high enough to shift the transmission into the next gear. At this point I have to shift manually and lug along to slowly build up speed as the car has no power at all. Then next thing you know it is back to normal. The problem can last for hours and other times not so long.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so what is the solution? I asked at the dealership they said they've never heard of it.

Thanks
Shane_eh

Yes let the dealer look at this for you, and please let us know what they say. It may help others down the road

SHANE_EH - Do you have a 450 or 451? I haven't heard of this issue with the 451's, perhaps the Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia forum might have something if you are driving a 450! Sorry, that is all the help I can offer. This sounds as if the trans is stuck in manual mode and somehow gets its kink worked out getting back to Auto.

It seems if there is a problem my car ends up getting it. I've had them all so far, the linkage problem, gas tank sensor problem, 3 bars problem.

Loss Of Acceleration Both In Auto & Manul

I HAVE A 2006 PURE 3 CYLINDER DIESEL. I'M NOT SURE WHAT A 450 OR 451 IS.

THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE TRANSMISSIN IS IN BOTH MANUAL & AUTO. THE BEST WAY TO DISCRIBE IT IS THE ENGINE DOES NOT REV HIGH ENOUGH TO CHANGE GEARS. WHEN IT IS RUNNING RIGHT IT IS REALLY QUITE PEPPY, BUT WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT IS REALLY SLUGGISH. IT SEEMS LIKE THERE ARE INSUFFICIENT R.P.M's TO DO THE JOB.

I HAVE NOT HAD THE DEALERSHIP LOOK AT THIS AS WHEN I ASKED ABOUT IT THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM WITH A SMART CAR. SO I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY HERE FIRST.

Sounds like fuel flow or fuel metering to me but the resident expert is fredvon4! If anyone can diagnose this, it's fred.

When this happened on my Subaru Justy after 1200 miles; yes 1200 miles, it turned out to be a clogged fuel filter. Once that was changed I never had another problem with that car. Drove it until it couldn't go any father.

Have had this occur with my 190D, it needs a regular change of the fuel filter. Not familiar with the location of it on your car, but it should not be a big deal to do it, and it should be a good place to start before spending money to have it checked out.
