My first nova smart sighting!!

Yeeehawww!
I spotting my first moving Smart today on the Fairfax County Parkway here in sunny Northern Va.!
After 1.6K miles of driving, this was quite an event.
As an ex-Wrangler driver, I miss the comaderie of waving to "niche" car owners.
Shoot, I got so excited seeing the blazing yellow/orange (it seemed) FourTwo approaching me in the opposng lane, I forgot where the torch stalk was; while my car was cleaning the windshield I had to resort to a full arm out the window wave.

OK, not very sophisticated, but just how regal is driving the Smart in the first place??

I hope this is the first of many more sightings!

You must be from across the pond originally. I loved the term "torch stalk" and I know the feeling of fumbling for the lights. (I still haven't gotten to where flicking the high-beams comes natural, turning the headlights on and off instead.)

There are some places where Smart sightings are much more common. Perhaps if you took a drive through Georgetown or down to the Alexandria waterfront, you might see more Smarts in the wild. DC proper? Who knows?

No, mate, that just comes from working with the Royal Australian Navy these past twenty years, lots of "bonnet" this and "east-west engine" that. You know, flat out like a lizard drinking. Just picked up some of their idiomatic expressions.
I've even used "valve" while speaking of vacuum tubes.

John, on a seperate note and while I have you on the line: what does it take to be, and what are the advantages of becomng, a SCOA member?

Digger Tom

There's not a large amount of benefit - for me it was just the desire to help support the site. What you do get is:
  1. Access to a "Members Only" section of the forum where recently, for instance, pre-planning for next year's nationwide meet started before opening things up to a more public discussion, and
  2. Expanded storage for Private Messages, increasing from 50 to 250 messages.
I don't recall that there's any expanded image storage per-user, though there might be - the membership list mentions 40MB image storage. If you click on the blue SCOA CLUB at the left, it will list items off. The "exclusive giveaways" happened for one or two months before going stale. Many other small items are lightly used.

Oh - there may be inline ads that go away if you're supporting; perhaps that's just for not being signed in as guest. It's been nearly a year since I was just a regular visitor.

That 40MB of room for pictures in the gallery is nice to have.

Welcome to the club! (almost, at least)

The automated membership system has been having problems. You may need to send a note through the "Contact us" at the bottom of the page if you don't get a timely response.
