I can't speak to experience with snow conditions, but the smart is definitely an Alpine climber. The gearbox, in either mode, has the right shift points, and there is ample power. Most of all, the curves are a blast. Rear engine/drive should make for good snow abilities.

Just get a good set of snow tires and it will be great.

Get 'em by early fall or they may sell out due to the fact that the fortwo doesn't exactly use a common tire size. And there are only so many tires made or imported (like flu vaccine).
