Never mind the Bug lady

OK, so I don't own a Smart, yet. I am the current owner/driver of a Gecko Green 2007 New Beetle named Sherbie.

My daughter will be 18 next year and wants a Bug to drive. My idea is to get myself on the waiting list for a Smart, and let her have my Beetle.

So here I am, researching and looking for answers. So far, I have my sights set on a red cabriolet.

My first suggestion would be to get your reservation in. I just put mine in for our second Smart and the estimated date is already Sept to Nov of 09. I live south of Tampa and from what I can tell the Orlando market is just as hot as ours so the wait will be comparable.

Second would be get plugged into the florida chapter of this board as well as Kwagar's Central Florida Smart Club http://cfsmartcars.wetpaint.com/?t=anon. There are a couple of local events comming up in both the Orlando and Tampa area that you can get a first hand look at different smart setups. The new Tampa area club's website is http://www.smartflorida.org.

Third.... WELCOME!!

Oh yeah.... you'll love the car!!! They're addictive.

Thanks! I am a little north of Tampa, so I will most likely be going through the Tampa dealership. I want to drag my husband down there to look around and go for a test drive, but he seems to be in couch potato mode lately.

((((*hugs*)))) Welcome! I wonder if there's any other old TWR-ites lurking out among the smarties?

Have you searched on e-bay? That's where I got mine! I just couldn't wait until November of NEXT year to receive one. I did have a bad experience with my first bid in March of this year but tried again at the end of May. No problem then except it didn't here quick enough once I had purchased it! The people I bought mine from now have a black one for sale on e-bay. I noticed it didn't sell the first time so maybe you can talk them down a bit.

Try the Clearwater dealer.

I drove down to the Clearwater dealer a few weeks back and took a test drive. See Pam or Miguel - they're both great folks and will help you with any questions that you may have.
Also take a good look at the cut-away frame and Tridion cell in their showroom - it really shows how well the passengers are protected.
They're located on US19 just half a block south of Hiway 60 across the Courtney Campbell causeway at Lokey MB. Have fun~!
Oh, and drag the spud along, too - he'll have fun, as well.

Thanks you for all the great welcomes and info. I have been snooping around on the forums and finding answers to a lot of my questions.

I really don't mind being on a waiting list for a while. My husband has perhaps 10 more payments left on his truck, so the timing might turn out to be just perfect.

In the meantime, I can spend another year driving my sweet little bug before I give it to my daughter. I have been averaging between 28-36mpg in it, so I must be doing something right.

Sylvan~ (((((big hugs right back at you))))) It's been a long time!
