Aren't you afraid that someone will cut the top and take a really nice stereo right from the dash? I mean, my cabrio is 3 days old and I'm putting a new stereo in it (because the radio 10 is HORRIBLE) - but, its a shame that my selection choices were very limited because I'm afraid to put something "too nice" in there that will wind up gone by a crook! I don't live in a high crime area... but I'm just really concerned about this...

What are your thoughts?

IF you are really THAT concerned, maybe you shouldn't even have a radio! A REAL thief will steal you blind no matter what. Just break a window and gone before you can respond to your alarm (you do have one, right ?). Thieves are thieves and that's why we have insurance. Just enjoy your smart, put in what you want and pay your premiums on time! ;)

no, no alarm... because no one pays attention to them anymore... people don't even turn their heads anymore in parking lots when alarms go off... so I decided not to get one... bad move?

The past experiences with after market stereos getting stolen is why I tend to steer away from them in general. Lacking a decent factory radio, I'm going to install the Eclipse AVN2210P with TomTom nagivator in my smart when it arrives next month.

Since I can easily remove the TomTom and throw it in the glove box, it will reduce the changes of someone wanting to steal the stereo. Plus I really like the factory compatible look this unit will give (and I really like TomTom units).

I feel exactly the same way about them! HOWEVER, after having the animals in Philadelphia break into my unalarmed 92 Pontiac on the average of once a year (over $10,000 in damages and counting), while seeing every other alarmed vehicle go unmolested, finally, I broke down and JUST had one installed. I susepect, while nobody else pays attention, the thieves prefer not to risk the chance. To them, right beside/inside the vehicle, the alarm is LOUD and seemingly impossible for anyone to ignore! I HOPE!

My smart, when it arrives, is configured with the alarm!
