My wife and I test drove a for two the other day, and are hooked!!! Our deposit is down, now the waiting begins - Has anyone seen a side by side comparison of the new red for '09 vs the '08 metallic red?

Yes... the new red is deeper and richer than the tomato 08.

Welcome to the forum. I haven't seen them in person (except my own '08 red one.) There have been pictures posted of the '09 but most of us can't tell a whole lot of difference on our monitors. The professional painter types can describe a world of difference, but to mere mortals it's not readily apparent. No matter what the color, it's a great car. You're in for a treat!

Yes its a couple shades darker, the new red. Has more magenta in it. Less orange.

Welcome aboard, Chris! Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long to get yours (I waited 10 months for mine, but everyone has had differing amounts of time). If you get really antsy, you can always look at the orphans.

Have fun, look around, learn all you can - there is a tremendous amount of experience logged on this site. If you have any questions, just ask.

It is like having a high defintion television being viewed with low definition eyes. As I get older, they eyes don't get better.

It's weird but I first thought the 08 "red" was a major missed opportunity because it really looked more orange. Then I actually got an 08 "red" orphan and have been driving it for a year. Then came the 09 red and I was really excited about it and thought I would "upgrade" to the new color until I actually saw it. Now I like my 08 red better. It's not that the 09 is a bad color. It will probably appeal to most people, but there is something about having a little Smart car in a funky orange color that has kind of grown on me. The new red has more of a "candy" red feeling to my eyes and I don't think it looks as distinctive as the 08 metallic orange "red". The interior seems OK, it' just the exterior red doesn't seem as unique and eye catching as the 08 color. So at this point I think I am going to stick with the 08 and enjoy the fact it is discontinued and therefore even more rare.
