New to forum known smart fortwo always

Hello all
I have followed the smart since its european debut and have always wanted one. I have read the forums for quite awhile and know most of the people to listen to and not. Quick intro on my smart jorney, I cancelled my reservation after finding the prices changing(dealer gouging is a pev) Hoping I could pick up an orphan, by the time I found one the smart seemed not to be holding its price as well. Plus I have a soft spot for the 450 vs the 451. It seems the people wanting to flip their smarts are not able to command the price they once were. Thoughts?

Hi WFOsmart and welcome to the forum.

Before I weigh in on your question, can I ask - Am I on your list of people to listen to or not?

Yes, you are right. Smarts do not command the high resale the once had and most every dealer has cars available and some are offering "incentives" on 08's and used smarts.

450 is a whole different animal.

Somewhere around here is a complete list of dealers and their fees... Now where is that list?....

Good Luck.

I find it humorous that you have a soft spot for the 450 and you're concerned about resale value.

Knock yourself out and buy a 450 if you can find one, then I'll wish you good luck on finding parts and someone to work on it.

Sure, prices of the 451 are coming down, as one can assume they will since the supply is up.

Edit: Same question. Am I one to listen to or not?

Glad you decided to join us, WFOsmart!
As to the loss of the ability to flip a smart for a profit - that was inevitable, between the economic bubble bursting, and the gas prices returning to relative normalcy. Just a repeat of the late 70's and early 80's, but happened a bit faster.
As to the 450's vs the 451's - what's the attraction? (not saying it is a bad thing, just curious). We have one guy locally with a 450 who has built up a network of suppliers for his various needs, but everything is done remotely - has to order everything in, and do pretty much all the work himself.
Well, good luck with the 450, if you decide to go that way - you are still just as welcome here!

1st thing: Welcome, 2nd thing: What new car holds it's value after you buy it? I, in the past few months have found two kinds of smart people. People that love them and people that don't (I'm in the first group) I have personaly never bought a new car with the intent of selling it a few years down the road to make money, I either buy the car cause I like it and what it has to offer me as a driver for the next few years, or in the case of the smart car , Gotta Have Cause I love It!!!
Just be carefull buyin a used smart, they are delicate little cars and it may end up costing you more in the long run than a new one would have, besides you gotta love new cars, the look the smell, Oooooo gotta love the smell. Good Luck on Your Journey whatever you end up with new or old your still welcome here... Thats my .02 cents
