Hello. I picked up my smart in San Jose in February. It's been a good experience so far. Only problems: 1) cracked windshield after being hit by a rock in an Idaho construction zone, and 2) the occasional "7/8" when full fuel reading.
Have been on a road trip visiting relatives in Ohio. The car ran flawlessly and got between 40 and 50MPG. I went the northern route (Fresno-Yosemite-Tonopah-Ely-Pocatello-Jackson-Billings-Fargo-Duluth-Mackinaw-Toledo...).

I see from your map that you went through Nevada on US 50. That's billed as "The Loneliest Road in America". My favorite part of my trips back east is the Nevada portion (Usual Route: LeeVining, CA-Tonopah-Eureka-Ely-Wendover). I've done "The Extraterrestrial Highway" a few times. Love those Nevada back roads!
Yes, highway 50 is remarkable. There was a fierce thunderstorm the day before coming through Utah and it followed me most of the way through Nevada. Of course as soon as you get out of the he!! hole of a traffic nightmare known as Carson City and hit the Cali border, everything is beautiful!
