We're almost sold on getting a new Smart intermediate model. It's all contingent upon the ability of our Scion xB to haul our band trailer - once we have the hitch installed, we can sell our Sienna. In the meantime, we're going with the reservation system to order a Smart.
The things that clinched the purchase with us were the test drive (my lovely wife was a bit afraid of the Smart concept), the availability of cruise control and a GPS system (both aftermarket), and the ability to carry either a hockey bag or a baritone saxophone (both satisfying my "special needs"). Other than the actual test of the last two items (which will happen later this week), all of the piece of the puzzle are in place.
I've been sold on high mileage, small size cars since my beloved 1982 Toyota Starlet, which used to knock out 45 mpg on the highway on a good, cold day. While we've always had at least one "compact" car in the garage over the years, the Smart will allow me to garage it in the same bay as our band trailer - another real plus.
