Welcome to the SMART world, thank-you for the wonderful write up of your test drive! I only got to go around a big block after standing in line for almost an hour, I didn't notice half the stuff you did.
On the car being noisier and it reminding you of a VW, I think that is what rear mounted engines sound like. and on you saying your reservation # is in the Billions! They/we are posting only the last four numbers in that long string. I hope that makes you feel better. As far as them getting on you about what the dealer rep told you and what we should be getting......IMO he was answering your ques and explaining to you the car you were driving at the time, which should have been the european model
(450) According to the SMARTUSA web sight the cars made for America will be alittle different. Like the base model being called a Pure instead of a Pulse for starters sort of like comparing an apple to a pear They are both fruits, but yet a little different. I enjoyed reading your post and thanks again for the great write up.

I called Devon and talked to Margie. The car they have is the 450.

The Pure has always been the base model. The Pulse was middle model. It had std paddle shifters and larger tires. Passion has always been the top model.

You'll find that the folks on this site know more about these (both old 450 version and new second generation 451) cars than any sales people.
We are true enthusiasts, not just someone trying to make a paycheck.

mfoster is correct. The USA version will be a LOT better than the one you drove.

Hi All, I'm from Philly and am waiting too but since May 07 (#1229). I went to the test drive in CHerry Hill New Jersey a bit ago. Only made me want one more. I'm excited as it seems to be inching up closer and closer.
