New member and Smart owner

Hi everyone,

So I've been a smart fan for some time and by some stroke of luck, I managed to pick up my very own smart used from my local CarMax dealer. So now I'm on the road in my 08 Passion that only had 1900 miles on it when I got it a couple days ago. It's my first "real" car as I had been just going from beater to beater and I absolutely love it.

As a new owner, a quick question: should I contact my nearest smart center (Fairfield, CT) and inform them that I own this car incase of warranty or service needs? Also, when the time for the scheduled maintenance
comes around, should I take it to the smart center, or is going back to the CarMax to perform the scheduled maintenance acceptable? Thanks for the help, I love this car!

Welcome to the forum and smart ownership! There is some process to note the transfer of ownership for recall notices, etc. It might be a good idea to swing by the dealer, meet the folks, and ask about the transfer note. If the dealer doesn't handle that, smartUSA should be able to take care of it.

If you're interested in tracking and sharing your mileage, we can always use a few more smart owners on Fuelly.com.

Congratulations on your new smart and welcome to the forum. I can't think of any reason you'd have to contact the smart dealer, but when you're in the area, you'd probably enjoy stopping in and meeting the folks. That should also help give you a feeling about where to go for servicing. Here in NJ, I make the haul to my dealer for the scheduled stuff and do the rest myself. I do that both because I like them (Smart Center Englewood) and want to support them and be sure they're in business if/when I really need them and because I feel more comfortable having a professional that knows the car check it over periodically.

...welcome to the asylum..good point in reporting your ownership with the local/closest smart dealer just in case of warranty work...I would at least talk to them...
...the early maintenance of this car is sooooo easy that anybody with knowledge of how to use basic tools can do it with one eye tied behind his back...

jetfuel...anybody has a knife?
