New Owner needs advice.

Hello from Redmond, WA, home of M$crosoft.

I just picked up my Pure last weekend. I am quite happy with it, but there are a few things that bother me and maybe you can tell me how to deal with them.

- No spare tire, just a compressor and flat fixer. The dealer recommended not using this because it has to be replaced after one use and costs $200. Can I just buy a couple of cans of flat-fixer to do the same thing?

- Battery in awkward location. Because there is no clutch, cannot push-start and not sure if I could reach the battery with standard jumper-cables. What is your solution?

- Premium Gas - Dealer says this is not needed but improves mileage/ performance. So is the extra mileage worth the extra cost for premium. Has anyone got hard data on mileage with regular and mileage with premium?

- I really wanted a clutch, but they are not available in the US (they are apparently in Europe) The automatic shifting is bad, how best to deal with that?

Otherwise, I think it's great.

Thanks

Also I forgot one thing, the keys

If you lose both keys, it costs $3,000 to get new ones. Anyway around that?

Hi and welcome; the questions have generated many, many comments in the past and probably will again.

- No spare tire, just a compressor and flat fixer. The dealer recommended not using this because it has to be replaced after one use and costs $200. Can I just buy a couple of cans of flat-fixer to do the same thing? Yes.

- Battery in awkward location. Because there is no clutch, cannot push-start and not sure if I could reach the battery with standard jumper-cables. What is your solution? Jumper cables work, but it is awkward. Follow the instructions in the Owners Manual.

- Premium Gas - Dealer says this is not needed but improves mileage/ performance. So is the extra mileage worth the extra cost for premium. Has anyone got hard data on mileage with regular and mileage with premium? Not worth the mpg trade off in most owners' opinion. A tank of 91 octane is only a couple of bucks extra.

- I really wanted a clutch, but they are not available in the US (they are apparently in Europe) The automatic shifting is bad, how best to deal with that? The car has a clutch; does not have a clutch pedal [even in Europe]. Give the auto mode a few weeks; if you still hate it switch over to the manual side and use the shift lever.

Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure this is off by about 10 fold. Where did you hear this?

Any, I'm sure there are some members who have had to replace a key, just don't recall the specifics.

Welcome to the forum!

costly key replacement

If it is true that replacement keys costs $3,000.00, it could be one of (if not thee) most expensive key replacement.

It would be nice if there was an easier way to get or give a jump.

It took me a short time to get used to the 'auto' mode. Once I did, it is no big deal. I am doing quite well with it. I have the Pure. I named mine Herb. It is blue with a silver tridon. I really like driving it.

You can buy a spare front wheel + tire to use as a spare. If you're not too tall it'll fit vertically behind the driver's seat. Most people buy the steel wheel that goes on the Pure. If I had it to do over, I'd pay extra for an alloy wheel that's a lot lighter than the steel wheel and matches my two other front wheels in case one of them got dinged badly. I got a jack from a wrecking yard and bought a breaker bar a socket to use as a lug wrench. There are spots just behind the front wheels and just ahead of the rear wheels for where a jack is meant to be placed.
