new Smart Owner

I bought my Smart Passion Cabriolet on August 14th and absolutely love it! I didn't get the extended warranty but I'm worried that if I break down and use AAA the tow truck driver won't know how to tow my car! any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum and enjoy the new ride! Well, it's never been an issue for me in nearly 40K miles (knock on wood), but if the driver is not familiar with the car, then you may have to guide him to the tow bolt under the passenger side carpet and show him where it goes into the front bumper. And, make sure you keep the little covers and bits with you so they don't go missing.

If you're interested in tracking and sharing your fuel mileage, we can always use a few more smarts on Fuelly.com.

If your car ever needs to be towed, Insist that it be done on a flatbed. The old style wreckers will destroy your car. The tow bolt is under the foam below the floor on the passenger's side. There have been people who have had the bolt pull out of the bumper, I have never used mine yet. Make sure the towing company knows what they are doing and it isn't some guy that bought a truck and thinks he is a pro.

Chances are slim that you will need a tow.

Welcome to the forum. I can't comment on towing since I have no experience regarding that issue, but I believe your inquiries were answered within a few posts here and there are threads about towing when you start browsing around.

I too am thrilled with my one-month old cabrio! I didn't get the warranty either - but am going to watch my two year/24,000 closely - at my dealer, they said I can come back at any time before that expires and add on the extended warranty, which I am sure I will do, because I'm afraid to say it looks like repairs are expensive on our little cars.

I second the flat bed tow truck idea if you ever need one - in fact, I kind of think it says that specifically in the owners manual. When you specifically request that kind of truck, they'll add on another bit of fee, but I see that as unavoidable - you can't let them send a normal truck THEN request a flat bed.

I had my Expedition towed after the lower ball joint broke. I specificly told them it would have to be on a flatbed as there was nothing to grab onto. They showed up with a regular tow truck, hooked on and said he does this all the time. I told him you break it, you fix it!! Well, he got 12 feet and it fell off the sling, broke the axle and damaged the bumper. Suddenly he says it has to be on a flatbed..... They towed it in, charged me for TWO trucks, and won't pay for the additional damages. Guess they don't mind all the bad publicity the are getting. I only paid for one of the trucks and told them to sue me for the rest. I sent them a bil for their share of the damages and never heard a word from them. Seems their towing services are a bit off these days, their competition is doing just fine.....
