Newbie wants to know about crazy prices for '05-'06 models?

I always see on Ebay some listings for these earlier gray market models with prices over $20,000. I don't know if they ever sell but are they so much better than the 2008 cars?

It depends on the eye of the beholder... but the "grey" ones needed some tinkering before they passed the mandatory hurdles for inspection. And a bit more. That explains the hefty prices...
The 450 ("grey") are shorter, have a 2x3 gearbox and a MB engine. Whereas the 451 (the ones Penske imports) are a bit heftier, have a 5 gearbox and a Mitsubishi engine.

There were only a limited number of the '05 and '06 models imported and some now consider them a collectors item. I would have preferred to have an '06 as it suits my needs a little better. (it's shorter) But way too big a premium to pay to get one. I like my '09 anyway. ;-)

Also remember, more people have there hand in the pot too. Someone has to buy it in Europe, someone imports it into the US, someone converts it to us specs, and some dealer sells it. Lots of hands!
