i wonder what effect a 10,000 unit recall would have on next year's MSRP? hmmm.

for the time being, for me, it hasn't been an issue as i rarely use it. if for some reason i begin to use it more, i will adjust it as suggested in the earlier post. if it breaks, i will get a new one of the replacement style. the cost of replacing it even tho it's not broken will be borne by future buyers... that's not my style so i'll just keep it like it is until and if it breaks down.

I'm also hoping that it is solid not perforated. Maybe white on inside?

Redesigned sunshade

I contacted the service department and the lady said to just bring it in to get the sunshade fixed. So I called my salesperson, who now works for Mercedes. He said that a few months ago he'd heard about a redesign. He passed my contact info on to the Smart manager at Easton (Columbus, OH). The manager is supposed to contact me. I will pass on any info I learn.

I'm pretty sure my car came with it...built july/08. It's cloth, not the plastic mesh as I remember seeing when I test drove in January. I know I hated the mesh back then...it's was the same stuff as that used on some worthless patio umbrellas: WHY BOTHER? This one actually works, not only for reducing heat, but so far..it's held together, though it's less than a month old so impossible to tell how it'll hold together in the long run.

I have a Jumbo "One size fits all" sunshade from Auto Zone, it covers all but a small portion of each corner, two of them cost around $10.00. I tore one because it got hooked on a pin in the front of the roof that looks like it is used to align the windshield. I just pulled the second out out and installed it. If it tears, I may consider paying the higher price to get a custom fit, it the mean time my "CheapO" solution works for me.

Got my "new" "re-designed" sunshade on Monday. It seems to be the same as the original ones. Same C clips, fabric, pull bar. We'll see how long this one lasts. The service guy said that it has to be fully opened or fully closed for it to work correctly, no more opening it only half way.

smart center Portland is treating this as a warranty issue and replacing shades with the new redesigned type as available. Contact your dealer as supplies are limited at this time. Portland reports they are awaiting parts!!
