No Extended Factory Warranty!

The Smart car does NOT come with a factory, or even a dealer backed warranty that extends beyond 24 months.

The "extended warranty" being offered you when you buy your smart is only a third party service contract. Smart is only on the hook for 24mos total. A2Jack.

I bought a 5 yr, 75K miles warranty from the dealer and it says SMART right on it... and I ask them who is administering the warranty, a 3rd party? And they said "NO - this is from SMART"... my warranty was $1195.

A read of your contract will give the facts. Smart corp is not libel for cost of repairs. The third party must give approval for all repairs. A2Jack.

Technically we bought our smarts through a third party as well - Penske! Doesn't really matter who pushes the paper work on the extended warranty. And yes, it is dealer backed - they certainly backed it enough to sell it! ;)

+1, but I got the 5 yr, 100K mile warranty... and it is DEFINITELY a "smart" warranty. I purchased it through Beverly Hills smart, and Vinnie assured me that this is a smart factory warranty extension. However, I also approached the Laguna Niguel dealer, and they told me that they do not sell the "smart" warranty...only a 3rd party because it's a better warranty.

Jeez, I never even considered the "extended warranty." Two reasons..... one, most such companies go out of business before the warranty runs half it's course..... two, most such warranties have enough loopholes of sufficient size you could drive a truck thru them. Of all the new cars I've bought over 37 years, not one has had a warranty repair over $100. I'll take those odds. Cheers......

The reason I bought mine is because it includes towing to the nearest dealership for the 5 yrs... which, in my case, is so far that it would likely cost me hundreds of dollars just to have it towed there... so I thought it was worth it...
