No lines, no waiting?

I keep reading the sad posts of people who reserved last summer and aren't expecting a car until 2009. I reserved less than two weeks ago, and configured yesterday. The email from Smart which asked me to configure said, "We are pleased to inform you that we may be able to deliver your smart fortwo during the second half of 2008." Is this just irrational optimism on their part, or has something changed? Do "loaded" cars have expedited delivery dates? Has dcx promised increased production to smartusa? Anybody have any theories?

considering i'm one of those who 'reserved' late (3/16/08) and haven't yet 'configured', i'm hoping you're right.

as for DCX....they are no longer involved with Smart, or anything else for that matter. "DCX" is Daimler-Chrysler and there is NO "Daimler-Chrysler" any longer......just "Chrysler LLC" after Daimler sold off that brand.

but yes, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that i get to 'configure' soon. it would be nice to have it this year, but i'm not driving it in the winter anyway, so unless they plan on getting it to me in August or September (ha ha), i can wait it out....;)

Wow Jeepster55. I just configured last Friday and have reservation #1411 from November 07 AND I'm in Albuquerque. I actually found my invite to configure in the spam e-mail folder. I can't imagine that they haven't sent it to you yet given the confirmations that have recently gone out. You've contacted smartUSA about this? Seems really odd that you don't have the e-mail yet. I'd raise a little cane and insist they send or resend it. Good Luck!

I configured 3/30/08 but the dde is still showing nov 08/jan 09 was so hoping for a delivery this summer (reserved 8/17/07)

Let me tell you, "loaded" cars don't make a bit of difference! I reserved in June of 2007 and configured January 28, 2008 and my estimated delivery is between June 25, 2008 and September 23, 2008!

SMART ABO, I'm #1411 in So.Cal and reserved in NOV. and i haven't confirmed yet. My ETA Date is May-July -2009. I hope these dates will change to sooner for everyone.
