There is a tire repair kit under the floor in front of the passenger seat. If you lift the mat the kit is under there in a styrofoam holder. Inside the black box with the glue is step by step picture instructions on how to fix the tire. I think if you follow the instructions you should be fine...it seems pretty fool-proof (really good for me!) but AAA works well too

no spare tire ? no problem using the "repair kit" is faster than change a tire.(I've experience it one time)
If smart had put a spare tire into the car, wich one they had to put ? Front or rear ? ....
the "glue" from the original kit is expensive but you can use repair kit from motorbikes shops like that (it's the same but cheaper) I always got one under the passenger seat.

you can also "used" the kit too "file in" the tire, when they need some pressure.... some people used the "electric pump" for their football/soccer/basket balls but you need a special adaptor (but i don't no where to find it)

once again excuse my english ........

I'm with smorris on this one. It's been a long time since I have had to change a tire. ( mostly because I can now afford to keep good tires on my vehicles)
If it has a slow leak the kit will work just fine. If it blows out, call a tow truck.

Too bad they don't come with run flat tires.

Or, wouldn't it be cool if they had tweels? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBNa6VBDxtE&NR=1

I know - how about a continental kit?

How about a 450 front steel wheel and an old beetle tire (145-15) that combo should be really narrow and tall enough to work as a spare and fit behind the seat. Don't just let it flop around though make a nice bracket.

A friend of mine at southwest research told me about these tweels. I think they did some testing there. Looks like a great idea.

If the tire diameter varies too far from stock on these spares, it wiil mess with the ESP system. Not a good thing.

I have to say, I'm REALLY glad they don't have run-flats. I had them on my MINI Crapper and they are extremely expensive to replace, seemed to get flats WAY more often (possibly more susceptible?) and few tire shops will repair them when the legal disclaimers all direct against fixing a puncture. MINI definitely does not recommend any type of patching. It's a bit hard to swallow at $225 a tire. Not that I'm looking forward to a flat with the smart though...

Having gotten my first flat in several years the other day, I can offer you this:

The screw that caused the flat was too close to the sidewall to fix the tire. The good news is that the low tire pressure light works. The good news is that I was pulling the car out of the garage when I saw the light. Removed said tire, and drove it to the tire store in the other than smart car.

The bad news is that no one locally had a tire in the correct size. Even with 1 day delivery from tire rack,(should be here today) I've got a car in the garage with 3 wheels since Sunday. If it were my only car, I'd be screwed.

Not sure what any of that means to anyone, just putting it out there.
